Winnedumah Paiute Monument, 80′ rock tower skylined on the Inyo crest at center, across fifteen miles and 4500′ deep of high desert air. (this new point and shoot has a nice lens for distance shots, but as you’ll see, it’s got the blues for mountain scenery, and I never could get the photos out of it I wanted, for all the futzing with settings and modes, and photoshopping, abandoned it for my iPhone eventually)
Our tracks from yesterday
Black Mountain and Whitebark Pine
Diamond Peak 13,127′, distant right of center, and it’s foregrounded east ridge. Yesterday we sat atop the diving board in the notch above the hidden couloir between, suggested by the shadows at right
.
Mount Mary Austin 13,051′
Black Mountain 13,291′
Diamond Peak North 13,071′, from west of Baxter Pass at about 12,380′
Foxtail Pine (Pinus balfouriana) spared by the recent wildfire here.
