This pier construction and maintenance vessel has sort of a post-apocalyptic vibe, with a piling festooned barge welded to the front half of a boat, with a crane parked on the back. There is a long tradition of salty boatmen on this vast lake, harkening back to when big steam ships plied these waters, first shepherding rafts of oldgrowth timber across to the mining mills and furnaces, then later, flocks of pleasure seekers to the casinos and shopping.
