Bull Thistle (Cirsium vulgare) Asteraceae family, an invasive non-native. I scout for and pull weeds here on my sunset walks, especially when the Lake is low, exposing the disturbed lakebed. This habit calls to mind Aldo Leopold’s discussion in the Sand County Almanac, of the practice of citizen ecosystem management and maintenance as a recreational outlet, while engaging directly with my environs in a reciprocal fashion. I find it quite gratifying, and through the years have noticed appreciable positive effects.
