Trails in this area were historically marked with ‘i’ shaped blazes cut into the bark, generally on both sides of a tree. I find the look of a shallow, lightly used old tread like this somehow evocative of the primeval forest. Hatchet cut blazes not so much. Granted, they do mark a potent and fascinating turning point in the history of this place.
