Columnar basalt swooping up out of the snow. I first found this formation moonlight fresh pow, roomer skiing on my old wooden three pins. It made a big impression. Not sure just how the usually strait parallel sided columns were deformed, probably slow distortion while they were buried, cooling and contracting, splitting along geometric crystalline lines with flair. (I have better photos of it somewhere which I’ll post and link when they turn up)
The reflection off the lake was so bright it cast a shadow in addition to the sun’s shadow, as I skinned up, putting a big wedge of light up through the shadow of my torso. I felt like a walking petroglyph man in a celestial solar alignment.
