Starting out in the fog. This is a hand dug aqueduct from the Comstock Era, still transporting water from the Tahoe Basin to the Carson Valley after 150 years. The mines have been closed for over a century, not sure what purpose it serves anymore.

White Bark Pine are related to Bristlecone Pine, both being in the White Pine family of five needled Pines, and are some of the oldest trees in Tahoe (after Junipers), as well as being the only true subalpine tree, growing only above 8,000′. This high forest here is almost pure White Bark, with a few Hemlock mixed in, and has some of the biggest specimens I’ve seen, likely most of a thousand years old.
