Giant Red Paintbrush (Castilleja miniata), Scrophulariaceae family. The actual flowers of Paintbrush are inconspicuous, hidden by the colorful bracts that surround them to attract pollinators. These plants are parasites, getting water and nutrients from the roots of neighboring plants, in this case likely the big Corn Lily visible behind it, which looks to have vitality to spare.
