massive old subalpine Foxtail Pine (Pinus balfouriana), which thankfully was spared by the big wild fire here a few years ago. Endemic to California, Foxtails are thought to live as old as 3,000 years, cousin of Bristlecone Pine, the oldest known trees, which live in Inyo Mountains, and the greater Basin and Range, across Owens Valley to the east, in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada.
