I got to the bottom of my first run, to reuse the deep skin track I had broken, to find a bear had come and walked up my track, utterly destroying it, postholing so deep he was high-centering in spots, dragging his dirty belly. I had to laugh because certain partners of mine get all exercised whenever someone ‘buggers’ their skin track by walking in it, punching in, even dogs. But bear buggering is totally next level. I doubt it was helping him much though; probably just hoping I had dropped snacks. I continued back up, whistling, scatting, beatboxing Coltrane’s soaring Resolution, to let him know I was coming, and how I rolled.
