Corn skiing in January? Yea, we call it June-uary and it’s all too common to get big stretches of high pressure doldrums settled over the region midwinter, particularly in January, lasting weeks or over a month sometimes, with no precipitation and inverted temperatures, still cold at lower elevations but remaining above freezing up high, trapping the still, cold air in the basin. sigh. But if the hills are white, there’s almost always some good skiing around here somewhere, you just got to be savvy at reading the conditions, and disciplined to go where it’s likely good, instead of wherever’s next on your wish list.
